ISABEL DOS SANTOS JOINS UNITA

Isabel dos Santos will be welcome to the ranks of UNITA
Luanda – You are a member of a family with tradition at the MPLA. How do you explain your UNITA membership?ISABEL DOS SANTOS
I am the daughter of two traditional MPLA families, the Neto family and the Webba family. My UNITA membership happened in the most natural way that could happen. After several years of brainwashing, after so much propaganda and lies about UNITA, after realizing what happened in 1975 with the ” Alvor Accords ” and after losing several family members on ” May 27 “, I decided, that I would contribute to making Angola a true democracy, working with political parties in opposition. That’s what I did for two years at the National Democratic Institute (NDI). It was through NDI that I had the first contacts with UNITA management. Joined UNITA after knowing its statutes and principal documents. This year I will be 10 years of militancy.

Was it worth this adherence to UNITA?
Absolutely! Everyday I wake up and feel like I’m fighting for a just cause, that cares about the less equipped and puts the angolan citizen at the heart of their priorities.
How did your family react to UNITA membership?
My late grandmother Josefa, matriarch of the grandson, was the first to know. I told him I was working with the president of UNITA and I was seriously thinking about joining the party. She, with that wise look, said to me, ” In my belly, they are out of the MPLA, FNLA and PDA. If one comes out of UNITA now, it’s okay. We are all angolans “. With this strength it was possible to endure the various negative reactions, because my grandmother had a very strong ascending about all her children, my mother’s brothers, like Alberto Neto Neto and Luís Neto Kiambata.
His uncle, the nationalist Luís Neto Kiambata, was upset about this political choice.
